Smoky Mountain Traverse - 50 Miles

Savannah and I backpacked the eastern half of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, from Mt. Leconte to Davenport Gap.  A couple of friends joined us for the first two days of the trip.  We hitched a ride from Newfound Gap to the Alum Cave trailhead and from there hiked the five miles, passing Alum Cave and the Leconte Lodge to the Mt. Leconte shelter.

Day 2:  We descended the Boulevard Trail from Leconte and joined the AT.  Ate lunch at Charlies Bunion, parted with our friends who headed back to Newfound Gap, and made our way to Pecks Corner for the night.

Day 3:  Beautiful ridgeline traversing along the spine of the Smokys to Cosby Knob.

Day 4:  Mt. Cammerer Tower, Descent Down from the Park, Standing Bear Farm Hostel.

Day 5:  Heat exhaustion on climb up Snowbird.  Called it a hike at Mile 50.  Caught a ride up to Max Patch.
